- The British Council Romania Teaching Centre teaches a range of Young Learner (early years, primary, and secondary young learner) and Adult courses. Young learners make up approximately 75% of our student numbers. There are 5 age groups of young learners, of which the youngest are 3 years old. There are also some corporate / offsite classes. Currently there are three locations within Bucharest where classes are held, the main one being in Dorobanti.
- The Teaching Centre team includes: three Senior Teachers (ST Secondary, ST Early Years & Primary, ST Adults), three Coordinators and 57 teachers. Romania is part of the 'Black Sea and Wider Europe' cluster (also including Georgia, Bulgaria and Ukraine). There is also a large Exams department and active Projects department.
- Planning, preparing and delivering up to 21 hours of high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning styles
- Monitoring progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students' performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy
- Contributing to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services
- Ensuring teaching meets the standards expected in Teaching and Learning Reviews, the annual Academic Quality Plans and organisational expectations.
- Using technology during lessons when required
- Finishing administrative tasks in a timely and accurate manner
- Contributing to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students' understanding of the contemporary UK
- Assisting in covering classes for colleagues
- Actively engaging in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning and maintain British Council's position at the forefront of best ELT practices
- Supporting local marketing and promotional strategy and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service
- Ensuring safeguarding and other guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:
- Child protection
- Equality, diversity and inclusion
- Health and safety
- High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module
- Cambridge CELTA AND/OR Trinity CertTESOL
- Undergraduate and OR University degree
- Cambridge DELTA AND/OR Trinity Diploma OR equivalent
- PGCE AND/OR B.Ed in Primary OR relevant subject
- TYLEC AND/OR CELTYL
- MA (TESOL or other related subject)
- A minimum of 2 year post-certificate i.e. CELTA OR Trinity cert TESOL experience gained from teaching a variety of age groups and levels from young learners through to adults
- You should have experience in teaching two OR more of the following age groups:
- Very Young learners
- Young learners aged 8 to 10 (600+ hours)
- Young learners aged 11 to 17 (600+hours)
- Adults aged 18+ (600+ hours)
- Experience teaching Young Learners aged between 4 and 11
- Salary: RON 10,844 gross to RON 12,874 gross, You will be employed on a local contract and placed on the salary scale according to qualifications and experience
- Contract Length:10 months (September 2024-June 2025-renewable)
- Contract Hours: 21 hours
- Annual Leave: 27 days leave (during the ten-month contract). Normally this is split between Christmas and Easter with a mid-semester break in February. In addition, there are up to 10 days of Romanian and UK public holidays as determined by Romanian law and the British Council, with in the duration of 10 month.
- Income Tax & National Insurance:
- Your gross salary will be subject to Romanian taxes which will be deducted at source. These may vary according to Romanian law. Currently income tax is 10%.
- Your gross salary will be liable for Romanian National Insurance Contributions. These will be deducted at source and the British Council. Again, these are under the control of the Romanian government and may change. They are currently at 35%. Applicants who have been resident and working in the UK immediately prior to going abroad for employment, may be liable for UK National Insurance Class 1 contributions for one year, and the British Council will pay the employer's contributions.
- Relocation Allowance: One-off payment of up to 500 GBP for candidates who are currently located outside Romania. This accountable allowance can be used to contribute towards initial transport, baggage and accommodation costs related to moving to Bucharest
- Medical Allowance: The British Council currently provides extra medical cover through a local heath care provider, although all teachers have access to the state system which is generally adequate.
- Settling-In Allowance: You will receive a settling-in allowance equivalent to two weeks' salary (three weeks' if accompanied). This is to help you to meet your initial expenses on first arrival in Romania. Please note all allowances are taxed. N.B.
