- Produce well structured, maintainable, reliable, secure, performant and fit for purpose database objects at an accepted level of quality
- Develop, document and execute unit tests that provide appropriate coverage and scope for the task.
- Perform timely and thorough reviews of T-SQL developed by the application developers, ensuring standards are adhered to, and that code is performant, scalable and secure.
- Participate in the analysis of existing T-SQL application software, identifying opportunities for functional and/or performance improvement with a view to maximizing application scalability and data security.
- Assist the Application Support, QA and DBA teams as required
- Provide input and support for initiatives to keep vendor software current, e.g. Microsoft SQL Server upgrades, patching etc.
- Proactively identify, suggest, and implement improvements to working practices, and provide input into the ongoing maintenance of existing SQL and Database Design standards.
- Demonstrate a sense of responsibility for the wider software development lifecycle.
- Adopt a flexible approach as business requirements and their relative priorities are subject to review and change.
- This role will be primarily focused on development within an application based on Oracle Database for WorldPay. This role requires expertise in Data Modelling, Oracle PL/SQL and DBA skills.
- Must be pro-active, show initiative and be a self-starter
- Can-do attitude and a sense of responsibility for the wider implications of software engineering, having a flexible approach necessary for the role, as business requirements and their relative priorities are subject to review and change
- Proven experience in developing database applications using PL/SQL
- Problem solving skills and the ability to think outside of traditional role boundaries
- Track record of personal development, seeking training in key areas, especially SQL Server
- Preferred to have degree level education (computing, math, science or engineering).
- Experience creating Technical and Functional documentation for application and code
- Worked with users and application stakeholders to verify and validate requirements
- Excellent communication skills are essential to gather and impart information effectively within the department and to the wider business.
- Passion for sharing knowledge and best practices
- Ability to work in virtual teams shared across multiple locations
- Fluent English (written/verbal)
- 4 years + Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or above
- 4 years + SSIS 2012 or above
- 3 years + writing T-SQL stored procedures
- 1 year + writing / maintaining SQL Agent jobs
- Experience of database design on enterprise scale relational database systems
- Experience of using Dynamic Management Views
- Query performance-tuning using execution plans
- Investigation of live issues (failure / performance)
- Writing high-quality, high-coverage test plans
- Supporting a 24x7 customer-facing OLTP system
- Microsoft SQL Server AlwaysOn High-Availability
- SQL Server Extended Events
- Git/GitHub distributed source code management
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5-4.7, Web API, Web Services, Windows Services
- Test Driven Development
- Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery
- Writing high-quality technical documentation
- Financial Services / Payments experience
- Expert – T-SQL development (OLTP)
- Expert - Database performance tuning skills (both queries and server configuration)
- Expert - Procedure analysis and debugging
- Very good - SSIS development
- Good – Experience with a version control system such as GIT
- Good – Batch file and PowerShell scripting
- Useful - Knowledge of C#/.NET
- Sound understanding and experience of Agile working practices
- Experience of the following tools: Jira/Rally and Confluence
